A catch up with interiors influencer @laurahomeandlifestyle
Laura your home is beautiful please can you tell us a bit about it?
We live in a Georgian Farm House on the Suffolk coast. It used to be an old dairy farm so we have a few barns that we've converted into holiday lets.... I love having people around! We moved here from London in August 2010 after a combination of feeling burnt out and young kids needing more space. We have never looked back! To be honest, it ticked every single box we wanted for that big city to country move and we couldn't believe our luck when it came on the market. We literally sold up and moved! We've given every room a new lick of paint and knocked a few walls down over the years but that's about it! The next plan is to update the bathrooms.
Have you always been into interiors?
Yes, I did an interior design course years ago but didn't follow it up as a career. Instead I went to work for an advertising agency and built a career there so my love for interiors was put on hold until recently.
Now I get to rekindle my passion and spend my time indulging in all things interior!
How do you describe your style?
I love the mix of contemporary, traditional and the modern farm house look. I lean towards mixing calm neutrals with patterns, textures and throwing in bold and characterful colour too. I'm a big fan of the relaxed but elegant style, combining beautiful with the practical space. I also admire the balance of old and new to create comfort.
What are your top tips for making a house a home?
Go with what you like and what makes you happy, there is no text book, it's your home to love! I tend to make seasonal changes with my interiors by accessorising with lampshades, cushions, rugs, pictures, candles and big floral displays.
What are your favourite accessories?
Cushions, table lamps and faux or real flowers, They can really compliment the look you are trying to achieve.
You have over 100k Instagram followers, did you start your account while renovating?
I started my account during the lock downs. My husband was stuck abroad so it was a great way of connecting with likeminded people, getting inspiration and being creative. The friends I've made and the wonderful opportunities I continue to have, are the driving force.
